This is a CUPE Local 50 positionNumber of vacancies: 1The City of Victoria’s Engineering and Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of essential infrastructure, equipment and services. We are pleased to offer a temporary Co-op Student position to support our operations within Public Works. The primary duties of the position include:

  • Work with sections to develop a risk register of key systems and functions within Public Works and its functional areas.
  • The work will include collecting, researching, interviewing stakeholders and establishing useful documents to support the development of a risk register.
  • Assist with revisions and updates as needed,
  • Perform related tasks as required.

POSITION FUNCTIONAs a student hired through the Co-op Education Training Program, you will be given interesting and challenging tasks while learning about a career in municipal administration. In this co-op position, you will participate in additional projects and contribute to the overall objectives of the work unit.MAIN FUNCTIONSUnder the direct direction and observation of the supervisor, contribute to the continuous improvement of the City’s operations using existing tools and software platforms.Participate in the development and improvement of future-oriented projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing field or office support.

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of results, write reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.Help identify and test new and/or improved tools and processes and collaborate to ensure “shared learning”.INDEPENDENCEWork is assigned by the supervisor and reviewed once completed.Problems are escalated to the supervisor.
