  • Position function: Supervise and coordinate the operation of the electrical section.
  • Homework:

A. Primary duties involve: * Coordinate, assign and review the work of up to 20 employees involved in the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and construction of the city’s electrical infrastructure and other assets related.

  • Establish and ensure that established schedules, procedures and performance and safety standards are met.
  • Monitor staff attendance and implement improvement plans if necessary.
  • Lead effective staff meetings and discussion sessions.
  • Responsible for complete supervision.

B. Other Duties: * Plan, prioritize, schedule, document and assign section inspection, maintenance and construction functions related to the City’s electrical infrastructure, with other sections and external agencies.

  • Design, plan, budget and supervise specific projects and programs.
  • Prepare operating and capital budgets, monitor expenses, write progress reports and make recommendations for adjustments.
  • Make recommendations regarding the types of equipment to be acquired, operational changes and associated costs.
  • Requisition parts and supplies from stores around town and purchase from outside suppliers.
  • Receive and inspect ordered items.
  • Verify and code delivery notes and invoices.
  • Review and approve credit card receipts and monthly invoices.
  • Obtain quotes for the provision of services by external agents.
  • Respond to inquiries, complaints and requests for service from the public and external agencies.
  • Liaise with consultants, inspectors, utilities and contractors.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to review work requirements and progress, and document findings.
  • Ensure that contractors and outside agencies comply with tender specifications.
  • Investigate damage and accident claims filed against the City and prepare reports.
  • Serve as primary contact for after-hours calls and emergencies.
  • Conduct on-site assessment of emergency situations arising from motor vehicle accidents, storm damage, equipment failure, etc.
  • Organize and supervise teams engaged in emergency maintenance work.
  • Act as an electrical safety representative for electrical installations and annual operating permits for the electrical section of the City.
  • Review and evaluate engineering reports, drawings and proposals, and make recommendations related to electrical infrastructure.
  • Prepare, review and evaluate specifications and offers.
  • Create, update and maintain databases, drawings and inventory lists on computer and paper.
  • Represent the section at various meetings with other sections and departments, as well as outside agencies.

Qualifications Required for this Position – Basic Qualifications:Education: High school diplomaCurrent British Columbia certificate and certification in the skilled trades as an electrician or Canadian Interprovincial Qualification (Red Seal) in the electrician trade.Current and valid Field Safety Representative (FSR) Class B CertificateCompletion of a course and current knowledge of the Canadian Electrical CodeAccredited courses in management and leadership studies (1 year)Contract administrator course. (MMCD) (4 p.m.)Current and valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.Skills: Organize and prioritize the work of the sectionUnderstand and apply electrical design and construction principlesType 40 words per minute; Operational level operation of the City’s word processing, spreadsheet and associated specialized software.
