Closing date: open until fullSalary: This position starts at $65,000 per year and increases to $89,000 per year, over a period of 10 years. This salary scale incorporates experience, annual salary increases to reward years of service, growth and development of employees within the organization.

Objective of the workThe DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is seeking a full-time Accounting Administrator to provide support to our financial team. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Administrator, the Assistant Director is responsible for DIVERSEcity’s financial operations.Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports accounting operations, including accounts receivable and accounts payable, as well as all legal reporting/payments.
  • Review accounts payable coding and approval and ensure payment details are correct and payments are made on time.
  • Assists in reconciling all accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Recommend and implement changes to existing processes to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Monitors, analyzes and provides reporting support on contract execution (financial and otherwise).

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all levels of staff to provide information and answer all questions regarding finances, budget and contracts;
  • Liaises with department managers to resolve contract and budget issues.
  • Establishes collaborative, high-integrity relationships at the executive level with funders, partners, colleagues and government authorities.
  • Ensures accuracy and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for exempt and union employees in compliance with all necessary regulations and laws.
  • Supports the execution of standard year-end payroll tasks, including statutory reporting (T4, T4A, etc.).
  • Support the implementation of a new accounting or payroll system, including but not limited to providing employee training and creating training manuals.
  • Support in the administration of Health and Manulife group benefit programs and plans.
  • Support for the administration of the employee pension plan.
  • Special projects and other related tasks as required.

Key Liaison

  • Internally with program and administrative staff
  • Externally with funders, clients, partners, the Canada Revenue Agency, the auditor, banks and the Community Social Services Employers Association (CSSEA).

Qualifications

  • A Certified Professional Accountant or Certified Payroll Management designation or equivalent training and experience in a recognized program.
  • 1-3 years of related progressive experience in a complex labor relations environment (non-profit preferred) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to demonstrate strong leadership and work independently and collegially in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information and make sound judgments in a concise and credible manner using specialized knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to work simultaneously with a demanding work schedule and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to streamline workflow processes and implement continuous improvements within your team.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a highly functional team with limited resources.
  • Demonstrated intercultural experience and/or knowledge of immigrant settlement and integration issues.
  • Experience in a non-profit community corporation.
  • Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong skills in negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution and contract interpretation.
  • Strong administrative, organizational and budgetary management skills.
  • Experience with Sage (accounting system), Payworks (payroll system), Microsoft Office and other social media applications/systems.
