Program Overview – Language Programs, Community Programs
This position reports to the Language Program Supervisor for the planning, implementation and evaluation of a high-quality, results-driven community connections program funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
The Community Connections program will build relationships between recent immigrants and established volunteers from Toronto’s East End neighborhoods, public institutions and private sector businesses, with the goal of helping newcomers settle and succeed. integrate into Canada while building a welcoming, inclusive and diverse community. Due to WoodGreen’s multi-site locations, we reserve the right to move the incumbent to another location, in the same position and performing the same duties, as program needs dictate. Reasonable notice of this relocation of the site will be given.What you will do
- Responsible for implementing all activities and achieving all qualitative and quantitative results in accordance with the annual work plan developed with management within the stipulated deadlines.
- Work with other Community Connections team members to determine mentoring needs, encourage the development of mentoring opportunities, and coordinate mentor retention strategies.
- This position ensures that service is provided to newcomers in person and through electronic services and that all program objectives, statistics and outcomes are met.
- Assist in outreach to the business community, professional associations and other places to attract potential mentors.
- Receive and review applications from mentees, conduct in-depth interviews to determine current status, goals and potential benefits of mentoring.
- Collaborate with various employers to host career sessions, providing newcomers with industry-specific opportunities and networking platforms.
- Conduct in-depth interviews with mentors to determine key assets (skills, experience, networking contacts, languages, cultural understanding) that could benefit mentees.
- Develop and implement a process for matching mentees with mentors, including protocols and policies, leading to successful mentoring relationships and confirm the matching arrangements, including mentoring objectives, timing, frequency and the method of meeting, the location of individual meetings to ensure the safety and comfort of both parties; make sure both parties understand and sign the mentoring agreement.
What you bring to the team
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, community work, adult education or a related field.
- At least two (2) years of experience and a proven track record helping newcomers achieve their goals in counseling, employment, or related environments.
- Career coaching experience is a fundamental aspect of the role.

- Experience in accompanying and supporting clients seeking employment in various fields.
- Previous experience in the nonprofit social service sector is preferred.
- Understanding and sensitivity to issues facing immigrants, immigrant communities and internationally trained professionals and in-depth knowledge of community orientation and support resources, activities and events in the Greater Toronto Area.
- Proven experience facilitating group workshops on various topics, focusing on supporting newcomers with community integration and delivering engaging orientation and training sessions tailored to the needs of diverse audiences.
